My name is Nguyên. It's pronounced "Win." My family name is "Nhô." In Vietnamese, it means "to grow." I was born in 1977 in Saigon, Vietnam. Life was very simple there. My family flew to San Diego California in January, 1985. In 1993 I started a drawing hobby during my junior year in High School. Looking back at that time makes me laugh because all I can see are tons of terrible looking drawings from the learning process. I strongly believe that art ability can be gained through study and practice.
From 1997-1999 I studied Math and Art at San Diego State University. I took a couple of figure drawing classes at a private studio also.
At the end of 1999 I moved to Van Nuys, CA with only a few hundred dollars to study painting and illustration. I worked as a picture framer to earn a living. Supporting myself was a very difficult transition for me at first. I worked at Associates in Arts for free tuition for a year. I took every class I could including drawing, painting, illustration, animation, and even 3D computer animation. I have offered private drawing lessons on several special occasions throughout the years. I enjoy the teaching process because I also learn from it.
In 2001 felt my body deteriorating from sitting too much. I realized I had spent most of my life being an observer instead of a participator. So I started Break-Dancing and Kendo (Japanese Fencing). In 2003 I met the love of my life, Leen Isabel. She inspires me more than she realizes. She built this wonderful webpage for me.
I am currently working on a Comic Book that my wife and I created. It is such a tremendous project but we love the process of creation. You can see some sneak peaks throughout the site of the work in progress.
Life is too short. We have to appreciate everything that we have. I would like to dedicate my artistic efforts to my parents. They are my heroes.
